NJ Septic System Design

Septic design is required before a new septic system installation can be started. A qualified engineer can make the design plans based on the type of septic system you need installed. The septic system design must be approved by the local health department and all local building permits and inspections will also be required.

Keep in mind that if city or town sewer hook ups are available, a new septic system installation may not be available. Homes in New Jersey that do not use the public sewer system need a septic systems to remove wastewater. If they are cared for properly, then a septic system can last for years reliably. There are many different types of septic tank systems that work well for a range of site and soil conditions. However, the most come with these primary parts:

Septic Tank

The purpose of the tank is to separate the wastewater from the solids, as well as partially decompose as much solid material as it can while permitting the effluent to enter the drainfield.

Drainfield

Once the solids have settled within the septic tank, the effluent is then transferred to the drainfield, which is also known as a leach field.

Pipes

The pipes that connect your home's plumbing to the septic tank and the pipes that move the liquid from the septic tank to the drainfield.

Soil

The soil that is located under the drainfield serves as a final treatment and disposal for the effluent in the septic tank. Once the wastewater goes through the soil, the soil organisms treat it before the effluent percolates down, eventually entering surface water. The kind of soil used here will impact the overall effectiveness of the above drainfield; for example, tight clay soils may lead to too much wastewater while coarse gravel may not treat the water well enough.
